Formed by an experienced team with backgrounds in renewable energy project development, farming and AD operations, Greenacre Energy specialises in identifying and delivering viable green gas projects across the UK. Greenacre works with landowners, farmers, local businesses and authorities to develop AD projects that positively impact the local area while contributing to UK renewable energy targets.
Greenacre is developing its current and future sites by investing in technologies that embrace second-generation feedstocks for their green gas production, driven by a vision of environmental responsibility and sustainable energy production.
What is Anaerobic Digestion?
Anaerobic Digestion is a sustainable method of producing energy by breaking down organic matter (such as agricultural residues & energy crops) into biogas and digestate.
Biogas can be used as a fuel for Combined Heat & Power (CHP) engines or upgraded to Biomethane for injection into the gas grid or for use as a renewable transport fuel. This upgrade process also presents the opportunity to capture the Carbon Dioxide (CO2) content of the biogas and convert it into a useable material for food and drink manufacture or industrial processes. This Biogenic CO2 offers a valuable alternative to these industries previously reliant on fossil fuel derived CO2.
Digestate, a by-product of Anaerobic Digestion, is a nutrient-rich biofertiliser used in agricultural or horticultural applications. Supplying feedstock to AD processes offers agricultural businesses an excellent opportunity to mitigate emissions from the storage and application of livestock manures, diversify arable rotations and adopt crop production practices that will improve soil health in the long term. Incorporating energy crops and digestate into arable rotations will help to improve the productivity, sustainability and resilience of these businesses.
